Kūkahi, whose name means, ‘unique’ in Hawaiian is an eighteen-year-old, Nā Hōku Hanohano Award winning artist. His first LP, “Kūkahi” received the prestigious award for Alternative Album of the Year in May of 2017.
The Native Hawaiian singer/songwriter composed his first song on the piano at the age of seven, and became infatuated with music. Throughout his childhood, he continued playing instruments. He learned how to play the drums and the saxophone and taught himself how to play the guitar, ukulele, keyboards, bass guitar, and synthesizer. He discovered his love for performing as a young teenager when he won first place in his school talent show, and received a songwriting award for excellence in creativity.
The multi-instrumentalist officially launched his musical career when he started a band and began writing original music. His first solo EP, “Raw” was released when he was fifteen. Since then, he has released another EP titled, “Nothing Compares,” (2017) two LP’s: “Kūkahi” (2016) and, “Human,” (2017) and two singles: “King MC,” (2017) and, “Heaven on Earth,” (2017) a brand new song written with and featuring Henry Kapono. He is set to release his latest album, “Pure” in the early part of 2018.
The Hawai’i native has played for large crowds in Tokyo and Yokohama Japan, Vancouver BC Canada, Florida, Texas, Nevada, California, O’ahu, and on the Big Island of Hawai’i. He is currently sponsored by Imua Ukulele, Honoluluʻs exotic wood ukulele manufacturer.
