Two things have always been constant in life for MARK.K: music and change. Since the age of one, MARK.K has been living between Germany and Japan. As a two-year-old child, he began singing along to Japanese radio in his mother’s car on the way to school. By the age of nine, MARK.K found himself in Japan performing with the elementary school choir and singing every day.
As his musical talent began to develop, so too did his influences. Living abroad, MARK.K began to listen to music from Japan and other places around the world. His favorite influences are specifically vocal ballad music and underground chill-out dance music. Together, MARK.K’s experiences and love for music have combined to form a unique style that separates his music from most other artists.
This style is perfectly seen through his latest single, “Island Girl”. Inspired by his love for a girl he once met on a small and unpopulated island of western Japan, the song talks about a unique love between an urban contemporary dancer and a country island girl. The song features his unique vocal style, which is a soft and sensitive whisper, almost as if the whole song is just “pillow talk.” Coupled with the minimal production and the intensity of the drop, the song has a really pure vibe for listeners. Some dramatic changes in speed are sure to remind listeners of the changes we face in our lives.
MARK.K gives us an amazing music video to go along with this song. He started imagining this video nearly three years ago but needed the perfect song. After recording “Island Girl”, MARK.K finally began working on this video. Through his own hard work, he wrote a story, created a storyboard, assembled a team, coordinated fashion, filmed the video, and edited it. MARK.K couldn’t have done it without help from actor Ryo Sato and actress Yuu Kinoyama.
As a result of MARK.K’s fierce determination, fans are given an emotional and captivating music video that is sure to inspire us all!
