Westye Hemsley is a French singer-songwriter. Born and raised in Paris, he is the youngest of three children. He was first introduced to music by his father, who exposed him to legendary artists like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Earth Wind and Fire, and the The Gap Band. Inspired by these musicians, Westye started playing music in middle school, where he was quickly signed to EMI Music in Paris. During high school, he registered himself to a jazz piano formation because he wanted to learn to play music and start to write his own songs. In 2016, after various trips to the US remixing and producing songs for other artists, Westye decided to record his debut album. “Why” is a single off this new album, containing rhythmic tones from the West Indies. The song is about a girl who becomes famous and turns her back on everything she once was.
